General Notes: Sheridain J. Colby was born in Woodhull Township, Shiawassee County, Michigan. Until he was of age he worked on a farm, attending school in the winter time. In 1888 he removed to Detroit, where he secured a position as a canvasser. After a year's work in this capacity he quit to become a conductor on a horse car, about the only kind Detroit has in those days. In the evening he attended the Detroit College of Law and was admitted to the bar in June 1894. In 1899 he was elected on the Republican ticket as representative in the legislature from the First district of Wayne County. He served continuously until 1904, and was again elected November 6, 1906. He died in office 1909. Sheridan married Eva Mitte in 1894. (Eva Mitte died in 1895 5.) Sheridan also married Maude Harper on 29 Dec 1904. (Maude Harper was born on 22 Feb 1879, died on 1 Mar 1907 and was buried in Oak Plain Cem, Woodhull Twp, Shiawassee Co, Michigan.) |
