General Notes: William Steel was adopted by Peter Walker a pioneer at Port Dover, Woodhouse Twp, Norfolk County, Ontario. Peter Walker and his wife, Ann Margaret Walker had no children of their own. In the will of Peter Walker dated 22 Apr 1818, it states "my adopted son William Steel eldest son of my aforesaid friend Matthias Steel". His brother's Joseph and Henry may have also been adopted by the Walker's. William married Susannah Ellen Evans, daughter of Edward Evans and Ruthey Jane. (Susannah Ellen Evans was born about 1806 in Ireland 3, died on 20 Jan 1864 5 and was buried in McGaw/Steele Cemetery, Walpole Twp, Haldimand Co, Ontario, Canada 5.) |
