General Notes:
William started a family with his wife Hulduh in New York, where their first three children were born. They headed west and settled first in Ohio in 1833 and then in 1834 moved to Hartland Twp, Livingston Co, Michigan. They later moved to Howell Twp and was Sheriff from 1846-1850. Next he was a tavern keeper in Howell. In 1857 his Eagle Hotel (or tavern) burned down in the first large fire in the village. William ran several businesses with his son Ira (William Huntley & Son). They operated Shaft's Hotel until 1860. Now called the Rubert House. The building was moved and in July 2001 was being used as an apartment house. They also ran a livery stable in Howell, Michigan.

Huntley was a native of New York State, and early removed to Ohio, -where he remained one year, and then came to the County of Livingston and settled in Hartland, arriving with the pioneers of 1834. He immediately took an active interest in the growth of the county, and in 1846 was elected sheriff, which office he held for four years. He removed later to Howell, and died in that village in April, 1872.
William married Huldah Mariah Sheldon. (Huldah Mariah Sheldon was born on 21 Jan 1803 in Sheffield, Massachusetts, died on 21 May 1875 in Howell, Livingston Co, Michigan and was buried in Lakeview Cem, Howell, Livingston Co, Michigan 3.)
