The Tobey's are buried under the tree in the center Lawler Cemetery is also know as Territorial Cemetery and is located in Fort Custer Military Training Center near Battle Creek, Michigan. The cemetery is very isolated and peaceful. This is very unusual for being so close to a city the size of Battle Creek. You will drive down four miles of dirt roads to reach it and not see a house or building. The only sign of modern life is a fence separating the Training Center from Fort Custer State Park. It is easy to image what Michigan was like in the 1800's on this drive. Visit in the afternoon if you want to take photographs because most stones face the west. Map Directions
