| Page002 | Proof Required Under Homestead Act - 7 Sep 1868 "We, Mason Lemon and William Covert do solemnly swear that we have known George Brady for five years last past; that he is a man of a family consisting of a wife + 5 childs and a citizen of the United States; that he is an inhabitant of the NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of section No. 22 in Township No 13 North of Range No. 10 West and that no other person resided upon the said land entitled to the right of Homestead or Pre-emption. That he owned and resided on Se 1/4 of Sw 1/4 Sec 15 T13N R10W at the time he included said tract as homestead. Which adjoins said original farm. That the said George Brady entered upon and made settlement on said land on the 1st day of November, 1860, and has built a house thereon 1 1/2 stories high is 18 x 24 ft in size, has one door and three windows, has a shake roof and board floors, house is made of logs and is a comfortable home to reside in and has lived in the said house and made it his exclusive home from the 1st day of November, 1860 to the present time, and that he has since said settlement ploughed, fenced, and cultivated about Seventeen acres of said land (3 acres of which is on Homestead Tract), and has made the following improvements thereon, to wit: has also chopped three acres on Homestead Tract that he has an orchard of 25 trees and a log barn 18 x 24 in size on said original farm." |
